Pedagogy and Materials

Summer 2024 Special Session: June 3-Aug 20

Class Notes

The Kodaly approach to music education develops music literacy through the active discovery of rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expressive elements. Student learning is based on active participation in music-making. Level I students participate in activities that build a sequence of musical concepts and establish use of this philosophy in their teaching. Connections to choral, instrumental, and older beginner concepts are established. The use of folk songs from a variety of cultures and composed works of past and present combined with the Kodaly approach ensure a comprehensive philosophy of music education.
