Wildcat Leadership

The Wildcat Leadership Institute strives to inspire and enhance leadership attitudes in students at Chico State. Serving as a bridge between academic, co-curricular, and employment experiences, students will be prepared to participate in leading on campus, in our community, and in the workplace. Student leadership helps students to advance and apply their leadership skills, helping to better themselves and the world.

Adaptation: Survive & Thrive

Adaptation: Survive and ThriveDr. Vernon Andrews
Multicultural & Gender Studies Department, Chico State

Have you ever felt out of place? Did you ever work hard for an opportunity only to feel like it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be? Have you struggled with identity in the midst of a life change? Dr. Vernon Andrews has. From his childhood hardships in urban Oakland to college life at more-rural Chico State, to a life in the corporate world and living abroad in New Zealand; his life has been full of change. Through these experiences, he’s learned to adapt to change gracefully with an open mind.

Dr. Vernon Andrews is a Chico State alumnus, holds a Ph.D., and taught in New Zealand for more than a decade. His experiences and life of transition are a testament that adaptation to change is not only wise, but necessary to thrive and achieve growth. In his talk, he offers practical advice on how to acclimate to unfamiliar situations, and maintain your personal identity in radically different circumstances.
