Chico State’s Data Science Certificate incorporates Statistics, Computer Science, and Business/Biology. These three themes encourage computational skills to extract data and utilize valuable sources. The program promotes consistency of data, creation of visualizations, and rational evidence to support results. The Data Science program provides students with necessary proficiency in both the Statistics and Computer Science domains and a thorough background needed for later pursue these subjects outside of and beyond school.

Decorative Use: Image from Communicating Data Visually PresentationInformation is plentiful, but making sense of it is not always so easy. Graphical representation of data can help us discover new insights and communicate hidden meaning in complex data. In this talk, Dr. Kevin Buffardi (Computer Science) introduces principles and challenges in visualizing information for better human understanding. Examples of good and bad practices will illustrate how to (and how NOT to) communicate effectively through Information Visualization. No prior experience in statistics or computer science is necessary. Presentation time: 47 minutes | View Now
