The Write from the Beginning and Beyond Narrative Training of Trainers teaches educators to train other teachers in how to teach Narrative Writing K-8. Leveraging the eight brain-based visual patterns that are the core of Thinking Maps, students utilize the Maps to develop and organize their thoughts prior to writing. This course introduces strategies for teaching narrative writing, including personal thematic, personal chronological, autobiographical incident, imaginative, and fictional writing. It will provide information for teachers and teacher trainers regarding the characteristics and purposes of each stage of development necessary in attaining proficiency in these types of writing, and step-by-step instructional plans for teaching narrative writing K-8. This course often includes Setting the Stage, a foundational training for all genres of writing. Teachers learn the basics of how to apply Thinking Maps for writing success along with the essential elements of effective writing, age and grade level characteristics and expectations, and the use of Thinking Journals and Observation Tools. Thinking Maps is a registered trademark. This course may be valid for professional credit at the discretion of local school districts; it does not meet degree or credential requirements. This course is held off-campus at various locations. Registration deadline May 1.
