This course examines the uniquely-American art form of Musical Theatre, and the evolution of the Broadway Musical. Students explore the predecessors that paved the way to the creation of Musical Theatre and study how the genre has changed since its inception. This course also observes the unique relationship between the American Musical and activism for equity and policy progress. Key figures in Musical Theatre history are discussed, as well as the "game-changing" Broadway Musicals that serve as the landmark moments which shape the musicals that follow.
