This course requires additional enrollment & fees paid to Thinking Maps, Inc. Registration is at: http://thinkingmaps.com/ and your participation is required to receive credit. The Write from the Beginning and Beyond Response to Text Training of Trainers teaches educators to train other teachers in how to teach Response to Text strategies and writing K-8. Leveraging the eight brain-based visual patterns that are the core of Thinking Maps, students utilize the Maps to develop and organize their thoughts prior to writing. The course covers reading comprehension for both literature and informational text and strategies for responding to text in writing, including open-ended response and formal response. Teachers will be able to instruct students in ways to support opinions with textual evidence to prove opinions are valid. Teachers will be able to teach students to examine writing with a critical eye, comprehend from literal to inferential levels, and organize information using Thinking Maps. Thinking Maps is a registered trademark. This course may be valid for professional credit at the discretion of local school districts; it does not meet degree or credential requirements. This course is held off-campus at various locations. Registration deadline May 1.
