Early Start Class Registration Begins

The Early Start Program (ESP) is a CSU enrollment requirement for first-time freshmen who need support in preparing for college-level English and/or math. The goal of Early Start is to better prepare you in math and English for your first semester in order to help you achieve your college degree.

To determine placement for general education English and math courses, the CSU uses multiple measures of academic proficiency that includes high school English and mathematics grades, high school GPA, grades in collegiate courses, and test scores (ACT, SAT, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, SAT subject tests, and Smarter Balanced Assessment-CAASPP/Early Assessment Program (EAP) to determine the need for Early Start.  Class registration opens July 6

Chico State will offer two Early Start courses during the summer of 2022:

English 131: Writing Workshop (1 unit)
• Class Dates: July 25–August 11. (Online)
• Registration opens July 6. Deadline to register is July 20.

Math 290: Early Start Foundational Mathematics (1 unit)
• Class Dates: August 16–18. (In person with internet use)
• Registration opens July 6. Deadline to register is August 10.

Check your Early Start Program Page in your Student Center to determine your Early Start requirement. This status may be updated so be sure to submit transcripts and grade verifications to the CSU, Chico Admissions Office as soon as possible.
