Course Requirements for the Major

40 units. Completion of the courses, or their approved transfer equivalents, is required of all candidates for this degree.

Lower Division Core Requirement Transfer Equivalent - 3 units from:

  • SOCI 100 Introduction to Sociology
  • SOCI 200 Social Problems

Upper Division Core Requirements - 13 units:

  • SOCI 300 Classical Social Theory
  • SOCI 301 Contemporary Social Theory (prerequisite: SOCI 300)
  • SOCI 305 Maneuvering the Job Market with a Sociology Degree
  • SOCI 310 Introduction to Social Research Methods
  • SOCI 315 Statistical Analysis for the Social Sciences (prerequisite: SOCI 310)

Upper Division Course selected from the following - 3 units from:

  • SOCI 360 Self and Society
  • SOCI 375 Global Problems

Upper Division Course selected from the following - 3 units from:

  • SOCI 330 Sociology of Gender (also crosslisted as MCGS 330)
  • SOCI 340 Sociology of Wealth and Inequality

Upper Division Internship Course - 3 units:

  • SOCI 411 Social Research Practicum (prerequisites: SOCI 310, SOCI 315)

Upper Division "Capstone" Course - 3 units from:
