After School Professional Development Institute Conference; Open Music and Arts Events, July 28 - August 1

CSU, Chico will be hosting 150 After School Professionals at their 2nd Annual Summer Institute July 28-August 1. Members of the campus community are invited to participate in two events that will be held in conjunction with the conference. Both performances are appropriate for children.

Upcoming Conference Highlighted on KCHO & KFPR

Lorraine Dechter of Northstate Public Radio conducted an interview with Steven Koch PhD, of the CSU, Chico Department of Professional Studies in Education today.
The interview is scheduled to air Friday, June 20th at 7:50 am and 6:30 pm on KCHO 91.7FM & KFPR 88.9 FM. The discussion covers the basics of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), along with its current uses and functions.

Professor Koch also highlights the upcoming conference, Dialectical Behavior Therapy Training with Jill S. Compton, PhD, presented in cooperation with Butte County Behavioral Health, and CSU, Chico Professional Studies in Education.

After School Professional Development Conference Starts July 28

In collaboration with Butte County Office of Education, and Region 2 Learning Support, California State University, Chico Center for Regional and Continuing Education will host Stepping Up To The Plate - After School Program Professional Development Institute, July 28 - August 1, 2008 on the CSU, Chico campus. The conference will provide K-8 after school program paraprofessionals, coordinators, and teaching staff the opportunity to explore ways to develop and improve their programs, facilitate experiential learning and promote a positive after school environment.

We are happy to announce our 7th Annual Children in Trauma Conference which we will host on campus January 16-17, 2009. This conference is shaping up to be our best yet. Dr. Richard Gaskill, from the ChildTrauma Academy will host the sessions. As you know, he is a recognized practitioner in the field and he will bring some great insight and experiences.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Training - June 25-27

Dialectical Behavior Therapy developed in the early 90s by Dr. Marsha Linehan, is designed to treat people who struggle with borderline personality disorder (BPD), suicidal thoughts, self-mutilation, food and drug abuse, out-of-control emotions and associated depression, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Local Government Leadership Development Program Starts February 14 in Chico

The Northern California Local Government Leadership Institute announces that enrollment is open for the Leadership Development Program, a seven-course series designed to help local government employees cultivate leadership skills and become more effective, proactive leaders and managers.

CSU, Chico to Host Northern California Botanists 2008 Symposium - Registration Now Open

California State University, Chico is proud to host the Northern California Botanists Symposium - Northern California Plant Life: Celebrating What We Have With an Eye to the Future, January 14-16, 2008 on the Chico State campus.

Children in Trauma Conference - Early Enrollment Now Open

We wanted to remind you to save-the-dates and make plans to join us for our 6th Annual Children in Trauma Conference - January 11-12, 2008 on campus.

We are very pleased to host Professor Victor Carrion from Stanford University, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is an internationally recognized researcher and a respected educator in the field. Dr. Carrion will discuss the current research in the field of stress, trauma, and pediatric PTSD, as well as, the emerging treatment protocols and models.
