Bernard Osher Foundation Reentry Scholarships
at CSU, Chico

The Bernard Osher Foundation recently approved a CSU, Chico Continuing Education grant proposal to provide scholarships for reentry students. The goal of the program is to support students who want to return to the University to finish an undergraduate degree program.

The Foundation will grant scholarships for future Chico State students whose studies were interrupted for at least five years by circumstances beyond their control and who now want to resume their University studies.

Academic Year 2009-2010 Osher Scholarship Information:

The Osher Reentry Scholarship Program at Chico State supports reentry undergraduate students with need-based aid exclusively for tuition and fees (State University fees, campus based fees, and/or special session fees only) for both newly matriculating and currently enrolled reentry students.

A maximum of $3,200 per year may be awarded for full-time enrollment (12 undergraduate units or more). Awards for part-time enrollment of more than 6 units and less than 12 undergraduate units may also be made.

Eligibility

All Osher Reentry Scholarship Program applicants must be enrolled at CSU, Chico or eligible for admission as reentry students. Reentry students are defined as individuals – ideally aged 25 to 50 – whose collegiate studies at a college campus were interrupted by circumstances beyond their control for at least five years (may be cumulative) and who now want to resume their university studies.

To increase access, the program will give preference to newly matriculating students.

Applicants must demonstrate financial need through submission of a Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA), which must be on file by the scholarship application deadline.

A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for the scholarship.

Preference will be given to reentry students who are new admits to CSU, Chico.

All new freshmen and transfer students to CSU, Chico for Academic Year 2009-2010 must submit transcripts to the Office of Admissions by the scholarship application deadline. Currently enrolled CSU, Chico students do not need to submit transcripts.

Personal Statement

The Osher Reentry Scholarship Program is intended for reentry students with high academic standing whose studies were interrupted by circumstances beyond their control who now want to resume their university studies.

The Osher Foundation is eager to have its scholarships benefit students who will contribute to the community once they complete their degree. Please submit a personal statement of no more than 500 words addressing both of the following:

• Your educational and career goals; and

• Explain how this scholarship will help you to fund your education; include any information regarding exceptional hardship or obstacles you may have overcome in your pursuit of a college degree.
