Classroom Assistants: Already Making a Difference

Printer-friendly version
Susan Levine, Program Assistant

This fall, OLLI Chico is employing a concept that is used at many other OLLIs in the national network—Classroom Assistants. We are just 15 people shy of identifying an assistant for each of our 108 classes.

The Classroom Assistant is our communication link between the classroom and the office. Already, we have heard suggestions about better signage and directions at Craig Hall. We will be replacing the “caution” tape on the stairs in the Gordon Room to help people navigate the risers. We will be replacing outdated audio equipment to help improve sound quality. All of these suggestions have come forward from the Classroom Assistants.

We are also receiving positive feedback from members on information that is being shared about deadlines for Alpin Hong tickets, for example. Sometimes these little, personal reminders are so much easier to act on than trying to keep track of old emails and newsletters, where these details usually reside.

We would love your input on how you think this program is going and we welcome volunteers for spring term. And a very special thank you is due to our new Classroom Assistants who are charting new territory with poise.
