Registration Now Open for the 18th Annual California State University, Chico CELT Conference on Active, Engaged Learning, October 17-19

California State University, Chico, Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), the Faculty Recognition and Support Committee (FRAS), and the Office of the Provost, is proud to present the 18th Annual CELT Conference, October 17-19, 2012, on the CSU, Chico campus.

Educators from throughout California will join hundreds of Chico State faculty, staff, and students to participate in a full schedule of conference sessions.

This year’s CELT Conference theme, Active, Engaged Learning, highlights sessions in instruction, classroom management, interdisciplinary curriculum, internationalization, the use of appropriate technology to enhance student learning, civic engagement, and interdisciplinary curriculum.

Brenda J. Allen, PhD, Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Colorado Denver, will present the conference keynote, Difference Matters: Forming a More Inclusive Learning Community highlighting the advantages of diversity and why it matters in a higher education setting. She will also share insights on how to accomplish the University’s diversity plan. The keynote is scheduled Thursday, October 18, 1:00 PM. In addition to the keynote, Dr. Allen will present a CELT Conference workshop, Inclusive Teaching Strategies, and a diversity workshop for students.

The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Director, Lee Altier, said, “The University is very happy to host Brenda Allen as our keynote this year. We are very fortunate, as Professor Allen’s research is very applicable to our understanding of diversity and multiculturalism and how we can create more inclusive learning environments in our classrooms.”

All conference participants are cordially invited to attend the CELT Conference Awards Luncheon, Wednesday, October 17, 11:30am - 1:00pm, Bell Memorial Union Auditorium. CELT will honor Outstanding Teacher, Ann Schulte, PhD, School of Education and Outstanding Academic Advisor, Jed Wyrick, PhD, Department of Religious Studies.

The conference and luncheon are complimentary, but require registration.
