Transforming Student Learning: The 2015 Professional Learning Institute

Regional & Continuing Education and Butte County Office of Education - Learning Support Region 2 – Expanded Learning Services host the 2015 “Transforming Student Learning” Professional Learning Institute for after school/expanded learning professionals.

This year’s conference program consists of a variety of hands-on, experiential learning, best practices and research-based workshops presented by cutting-edge presenters committed to supporting expanded learning programs.

The general session will be opened by keynote presenter Kenneth Wesson, Educational Consultant, Neuroscience. Wesson is a former faculty member and administrator in higher education. He delivers keynote addresses on the neuroscience of learning for educational organizations and institutions throughout the United States and overseas. His Brain-STEM presentations focus on merging brain science and the goals of STEM education.

Motivational presenter Matt D’Arrigo, Founder/CEO of ARTS (A Reason To Survive), uses the arts to transform the lives of children and youth facing their own struggles. . D’Arrigo’s and ARTS’ work has been the subject of the Academy Award winning documentary Inocente; featured on the Today Show; was a case study in the New York Times bestselling book Decisive by Chip and Dan Heath; and was profiled in Darius Graham’s book Being the Difference: True Stories of Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things to Change the World.
