General Software Recommendations

CSU, Chico instructors generally recommend that students use either MSWord or WordPerfect and save as a RTF (Rich Text Format) for papers and assignments. MSWord or WordPerfect are two widely used programs which allow for a more successful transfer of documents across different computer systems. Sometimes, specific courses will have specific recommendations about software.

About Chico's Course Management System

CSU, Chico currently uses BlackBoard's VISTA software as its course management and presentation application. VISTA is a suite of tools developed to deliver sophisticated Web-based courses. It is presently being used by universities and colleges all over the world to deliver online learning. HorizonWimba is a web-based application used within VISTA. HorizonWimba supports live streamed video and audio, and is also used in a number of classes.

What if you're an AOL user?

You can still access the courses, but you can't do it with AOL's browser. You need to have Internet Explorer on your system, log on with AOL, shrink (not close) the window, and then open Internet Explorer and enter the correct URL.
