Student Survey
Results
In 2001
a committee from BSS, Academic Technologies and Continuing Education put
together an online survey to be administered to the Chico distance education
students encompassing questions regarding student demographics, technical
capabilities, student services and perceptions concerning distance education.
The questions were obtained from the nationally recognized distance education
Flashlight project. The survey is administered each semester and results
have been presented at numerous conferences.

Students responding to the spring 2004 survey reported the highest
satisfaction rating the program has ever achieved - 99%. Here are some interesting
highlights:
1) 99% of respondents were satisfied or very
satisfied with the overall program.
2) 89% of respondents were confident they could reach their
academic goals using the Internet
3) Nearly all students (93%) plan to earn a degree from CSU, Chico
4) 97% of respondents would recommend a course that uses WebCT
5) 36% of survey respondents never used the helpdesk.
6) 13% of students did not participate in
academic advising.

Student satisfaction has remained at 95 to 97 percent for four
semesters we have surveyed students. Here are some interesting
highlights:
1) 97% of respondents were satisfied or very
satisfied with the overall program.
1) 87% of respondents were confident they could reach their
academic goals using the Internet
2) Nearly all students (97%) plan to earn a degree from CSU, Chico
3) 96% of respondents would recommend a course that uses WebCT
4) 41% of survey respondents never used the helpdesk.
5) 14% of students did not participate in
academic advising.

4) 34% of survey respondents never used the helpdesk.
5) 12% of students did not participate in
academic advising.
Fall 2002
Although the survey provides many interesting insights,
these were the most significant findings:
1) 95% of respondents were satisfied or very
satisfied with the overall program.
1) 84% of respondents were confident they could reach their
academic goals using the Internet
2) Nearly all students (98%) plan to earn a degree from CSU, Chico
3) 88% of respondents would recommend a course that uses WebCT
4) 38% of survey respondents never used the helpdesk.
Spring 2002
The overall tenor of the
Spring 2002 survey is very positive. Although the survey provides many interesting insights,
these were the most significant findings:
1) 97% of respondents were satisfied or very
satisfied with the overall program.
1) 82% of respondents were confident they could reach their
academic goals using the Internet
2) Almost all students (93%) plan to earn a degree from CSU, Chico
3) 89% of respondents would recommend a course that uses WebCT
4) Student technical support and helpdesk
personnel have an excellent reputation with many of distance education
students.
5) 20% of students have not participated in
academic advising.
Spring 2002 Survey Results
Fall 2001
These were the most significant findings:
1) 76% of respondents were confident they could reach their
academic goals using the Internet
2) Almost all students (95%) plan to earn a degree from CSU, Chico
3) 87% of respondents would recommend a course that uses WebCT
4) Nearly 50% of respondents missed important information due to technology
shortcomings
5) 33% of respondents were not comfortable with the Internet technology used. A
significant proportion are less likely (when compared with a traditional class) to ask for
clarification when they don't understand, or to use the technology to discuss ideas and
concepts with others.
6) Student technical support and helpdesk personnel have an excellent reputation
with most (90%) of distance education students.
7) Nearly 18% of students have not participated in academic advising.
