The American Language & Culture Institute (ALCI) welcomes 15 students from NIC International College in Tokyo, Japan. The students, who will arrive in Chico on June 23, 2010, will be taking part in the 19th annual Summer Bridge Program on the Chico State campus. Summer Bridge is an intensive, six-week schedule of English language, culture, and academic preparation courses and activities. The courses, presented according to skill level, enable the visiting student an opportunity to learn English and prepare for academic study.

Many of the students will study to meet the language requirement for admissions at Chico State, Butte College, Shasta College, or another university. While in Chico, the students board at Whitney Hall and get to experience first-hand what it is like to live on a residential campus. To immerse the students in the local culture, ALCI student services coordinator, Yuki Watanabe Rojas, has developed a full schedule of socio-cultural and community activities planned in town and around the North State. “We are happy to host our NIC friends again. The students enjoy this slice of student life, participating in an American university classroom, and taking part in the Chico Experience,” says ALCI Director William Dantona. For additional information about ALCI’s international programs, please visit their Web site. If you are interested in becoming an international student’s conversation partner, opportunities are available during the summer and throughout the year.
