Understanding Psychopharmacology

This course is designed for licensed therapists who have a good deal of clinical experience. The workshop addresses the following:

  • update on new developments in the neurosciences that relate to understanding psychiatric disorders
  • specifics on medical treatment of psychiatric disorders
  • how to more effectively interact and collaborate with primary care physicians and psychiatrists in the treatment of psychiatric disorders.

Understanding Psychopharmacology, presented by Dr. John Preston, will help therapists develop better skills related to diagnosing psychiatric disorders, knowing which disorders are considered to be medication responsive, improving abilities to collaborate with psychiatrists and primary care physicians, and evaluating the outcome of pharmacologic treatments.

About Dr. Preston

John Preston, Psy.D., ABPP, is a core faculty member with the Alliant University's California School of Professional Psychology, Sacramento. He has also taught on the faculty of UC Davis, School of Medicine. Dr. Preston is the author of ten books, four of which are psychopharmacology texts. His book, Handbook of Clinical Psychopharmacology for Therapists was the year's number one bestseller with the Behavioral Sciences Book Club. He also serves on the editorial board of Psychopharmacology Update. He has lectured in the United States, Europe, and Russia.
