Explosive/Noncompliant Children and Adolescents:
Implementing the Collaborative Problem-Solving (CPS) Approach
January 16-17, 2004
Presented by J. Stuart Ablon Ph.D.
Collaborative Problem Solving Institute
Dept. of Psychiatry Massachusetts General Hospital
Harvard Medical School
Children in Trauma explores the multifaceted issues surrounding children
who experience trauma in their lives. The 2004 conference is our second
annual presentation, and we are pleased to feature Dr. J. Stuart Ablon,
whose presentation at the inaugural 2003 Children in Trauma conference
received outstanding reviews. Dr. Ablon specializes in the treatment
of explosive, inflexible, easily frustrated children and adolescents
and their families. He will share resources, relevant research, and
an innovative Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach for responding
to children who demonstrate explosive behavior. Dr. Ablon's presentation
includes videotaped clinical cases and training interviews that illustrate
the effectiveness of the CPS model, a new conceptual and practical
approach aimed at improving self-regulation, affective modulation,
problem solving, flexibility, and frustration tolerance.
In addition to learning from a nationally recognized scholar and practitioner,
you will walk away from this conference with an array of professional
contacts and practical tools. The conference sponsors, presenter, exhibitors,
and participants all bring with them a variety of experiences, ideas,
theories, programs, and techniques to create an interdisciplinary,
kaleidoscopic approach for serving the needs of our most vulnerable
children: children in trauma.
