Serpentine Plant Communities
Description:	Visit McLaughlin UC Natural Reserve (Napa, Lake, Yolo Counties) to see serpentine plant communities with a great diversity of endemic and narrowly distributed species, view experiments in progress on the evolutionary ecology of serpentine plants (S. Harrison) and the role of adaptation in recent invasions.
Physic Rigor:	Moderate. Weather may be very warm. Bring sturdy hiking shoes, hat, water, sunscreen, and lunch.

Lassen Volcanic National Monument
Description:	A tour of Lassen Volcanic National Monument's hydrothermal features and their biota, especially microbial mat systems and extremophiles.
Physic Rigor:	Moderate. Most walking will be on trails and boardwalks, but some elevation gain and the hike is at about 6000. Bring good walking shoes, bag lunch, and water. Weather could vary from cold to hot; dress for changeable mountain conditions.
