Second Baccalaureate

Please Note: Admission to the online Computer Science Bachelor's and Master's Degree programs have been suspended, as the program will end in December 2011. Also, due to budget cuts, CSU, Chico is not accepting applications from students seeking a second baccalaureate degree, either in an online or on-campus program.

The determination of whether or not General Education (GE) units are needed depends on where the student completed the bachelor's degree. In looking at the information below, you may wish to refer to the General Education section of the University Catalog at www.csuchico.edu/catalog/cat09/05Degree/05ge.html.

  • If the first degree is from another CSU campus: GE, History/Government, and Cultural Diversity classes are all considered complete.
  • If the first degree is from a regionally accredited institution in the United States: GE, History/Government, and Cultural Diversity classes are considered complete
  • If the first degree is from a recognized university outside the United States: The student must have satisfied GE areas A2 (these courses cannot be used from the first degree if it was earned at an institution in a non-Anglophone country) and A4, an area B course, 2 area Courses, and 2 area D courses. The Cultural Diversity Requirement is not required and the History/Government courses can be used from the first degree.

Nine GE units from CSU Chico are not required of second baccalaureate candidates, nor is completion of a theme required.

A minimum of 30 units from CSU Chico are required to earn a CSU Chico bachelor's degree.
