New Master's Program Requirements

Beginning with the 2003-2005 catalog, there are different requirements for the master's in Computer Science at CSU, Chico. Students who enrolled in the program since that time must adhere to the new program description. Students enrolled in the program previous to Fall 2003 will be able to choose which set of requirements to fulfill.

The 2003-2005 catalog outlines the requirements for the master's degree in Computer Science requires each student to take four core Master's courses. Each of the core courses is a 600-level course and is offered in a self-paced format. These core courses will be updated as need. This schedule has increased the availability of required 600-level courses. The student can freely choose from the additional 500- and 600-level courses offered in the department.

The new core master's courses will also be used if the student chooses to take the Examination Option for the culminating master's experience. Each student can choose to complete a project, thesis, or examination. The on-campus examination is a one-day test offered on a specific day during the semester and covers the four core courses.

Please note students who started the master's program before fall 2003 may choose which catalog they want their "catalog rights" under. Students who start after fall 2003 must adhere to the new program requirements. It should also be noted these new courses can be used to satisfy 600-level course requirements from previous catalogs for specific areas as noted.
