Presenter Biographies

Debra Barger is Dean of Regional and Continuing Education and one of the co-directors of the NECTEC Improving Teacher Quality (ITQ) project.

Cookie Dillavou has spent 37 years in the teaching profession, with the last eight teaching art for the Chico Unified School District in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Ms. Dillavou holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics and Art from California State University, Chico.

Denise Dion holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and has been a CSU, Chico faculty member since 1993. She has been providing workshops to improve test taking and study skills since 1999. In addition, she has provided content instruction for the MSAT exam and currently provides content instructions for the SSAT Health Science exam.

Carol Edelman is Associate Dean of Behavioral and Social Sciences at California State University, Chico. She is also co-director the Center for Holocaust and Genocide.

Sam Edelman is Prof. of Communication and Director of Jewish Studies at California State University, Chico. He is also co-director the Center for Holocaust and Genocide.

Ronda Evans is a credentialed teacher, having taught elementary school for eleven years for Chico Unified. She is an educational consultant and also teaches at Butte College in the focus area of parent education and special needs children. She is married and the mother of four children who give her lots of opportunity to practice new skills.

Dr. Anita Fernández is a former high school English teacher and current assistant professor of Education at CSU, Chico. Her areas of expertise are multicultural education, English education and teacher education.

Trevor Hartman is the Web Developer for NECTEC ITQ.

Terry Janicki is Co-Director of the NECTEC-ITQ grant and Director of the Education Services Center

Steve Klein is a Professional Development Coordinator with Butte County Office of Education and Region 2 CTAP. For the better part of 18 years, he has supported teachers with the use of what was once called media, now called technology, in the classroom. His particular interest is supporting the development of schools as places serving a community of learners that include teachers, students, parents, administrators and community members. He also teaches the Teaching with Technology course at CSU, Chico as a part-time instructor in the Department of Education.

Dr. Deborah Reinhardt is Director of Music Education and Associate Professor of Music Education at California State University, Chico. She taught music, general choral and instrumental in Ohio, Montana and Maine.

Dr. Penelope Wong is also a former English teacher as well as a former ESL teacher. Dr. Wong is currently an assistant professor of Education at CSU, Chico. Her areas of expertise are service-learning, multicultural education and teacher education.
