Teacher Professional Development Opportunities

The Apple Bytes Collaborative provides innovative, high quality, online professional development modules for K-12 teachers. The best part? There's no charge to the participants.

These interactive, short educational "boosters" are conveniently offered after school on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Teachers are invited to log on and discover educational modules that are relevant and produce outcomes that are applicable the next day in the classroom.

How Does It Work?

The live interactive modules are delivered directly to your computer desktop through videostreaming technology. California State University, Chico has been using this delivery technology since Spring 2001 to deliver fully online courses related to our distance education degree completion program.

Before you join a live broadcast, please take a few minutes to check that your computer has the correct free browser plugins. It is important to add Real Player and have the latest version of Java. The Horizon Wizard will walk you through the setup. Although you can participate in this demo with a 56k modem, you will experience the best results with a broadband connection.

How Can I Get Help Setting Up for Apple Bytes?

If you experience problems setting up your computer, call the Chico Student Helpline at 800-780-4837. They may be able to quickly troubleshoot your particular problem. Please let them know you are part of the Apple Bytes teacher professional development program.

It will be helpful if you are prepared to describe the obstacle you faced, type of computer, browser version, connection and any other information you think might be useful.

Getting Started

Once you click on the live presentation link, the interface will ask for a login name. Please use your first initial and last name for your login name. Click on the Apple Bytes "room" located at the top of the list. If you login early you will receive a message that the course will start soon. If you login late you will join the live event in progress. Each professional development module will be available for two weeks.

The Collaborative is administered through California State University, Chico Center for Regional and Continuing education in collaboration with the CSU, Chico School of Education and K-12 educators in the Northstate region.
